INTRODUCTION

Understanding how birds respond to human-made environments is key to protecting biodiversity in a rapidly changing world.
This project explores where different bird species are found across the United Kingdom, using real observation data from the eBird database. We focus on how often each species appears in urban, suburban, and rural areas. Some birds thrive in cities and towns, while others prefer quieter, more natural habitats. By looking at these patterns, we can better understand how urbanisation affects bird communities.

Our Goals

We hope this project can help you understand how urbanisation progress influenced the living patterns of birds and the corresponding species.

By making ecological data more accessible and engaging, we aim to raise public awareness of biodiversity, encouraging curiosity, conversation, and conservation.

Whether you're a birdwatcher, a student, or simply someone who cares about nature, we invite you to explore and discover the patterns that shape life around us.

The map below illustrates how birds observations in different areas looked like over time. You can hover on the dot to see what exact bird species is observed.
